The Wezesha Impact Skills and Enterprise (WISE) Model.

Our intervention focuses on increasing the supply of jobs by increasing the capacity of youth led businesses to grow and thus employ more young people. We believe that this is what is needed to sustainably offset the demand and supply gap of jobs that contributes significantly to Uganda’s current youth unemployment challenge

Our model is comprised of the three complimentary pillars of:

  1. Entrepreneurship education and skills development.

  2. Technical support for youth led businesses; and

  3. Facilitating linkages, networks and voices for

    youth led enterprises.

We deliver this experience to youth in three ways.

Youth participate in a transformative experience of life-skills, employability, entrepreneurship, apprenticeship and linkage experiences that enables:

  1. IMPROVED YOUTH ENTERPRISE STARTUP.

  2. SURVIVAL

  3. GROWTH

A practical experience that prepares youth to thrive socially and economically.

Our Programs

SKILLS & ENTERPRISE

This addresses gaps and mismatches in technical, cognitive, and soft skills required for self -employment and entrepreneurship. Many youth are ill-prepared when they pursue self-employment or start a business. The lack of experience and or training in entrepreneurship and management inevitably leads to an extremely high probability of failure of above 90% in two years. Developing youth skills sets is key to unlocking higher productivity and success in self-employment and entrepreneurship.

By providing a practical learning experience focusing on these critical skills, Wezesha Impact seeks to meaningfully increase the ability of young business owners to successfully start, manage and grow their enterprises.

GROWTH LAB

This addresses capacity gaps for small enterprises with a special focus on access to specialized technical expertise. Firms, in particular small enterprises, may not have adopted more basic business management practices (financial management system, marketing plan, pricing strategy, etc.). These business practices are highly correlated with firm-level productivity and growth in both high-income and developing countries and this also holds for micro- and small firms. Even the most astute entrepreneurs depend on the capabilities of a diverse team of individuals with specialized skills to run a business successfully. Such specialized professionals are unfortunately way out of reach for young business owners primarily due to cost.

Wezesha Impact, using inhouse and outsourced professional services, facilitates provision of technical support, mentoring and follow-up that improves small enterprise performance and increase survival rates.

YOUTH VOICES

The inexperience of young enterprise owners often means that they lack access to opportunities and information needed for them to thrive in business. Furthermore, firms may not be aware of market opportunities and potential suppliers and buyers.

Wezesha Impact will facilitate youth to participate in national exhibitions, competitions, awards, and awareness campaigns. This will unlock access to information and build a diverse network of support that inspires and provides a sense of community for young entrepreneurs. Wezesha Impact also unlocks access to relevant market opportunities by facilitating lead firm-SME linkages that aim to develop backward linkages for lead firms which can create a market for related small enterprises.
